Equation of a Linear Curve

Before we start explaining the equation of a linear curve (straight line) there are a few things you have to learn, to do this, follow the link to Functions.
The basic formula used to find the equation of a straight line is 'y=mx+c', where 'm' equals the slope and 'c' equals the y intercept. If the equation contains an exponent the line is a polynomial, to learn more about this follow the link to Polynomials.
There are two methods used to find the equation using this formula - when points and slope are given, and when only points are given.
Once you have found the equation of the linear curve it can be used to sketch the line on a Cartesian plane, to learn more about this look at 'Method 2' of Sketching Linear Graphs.
